Just a quick request! I’m trying to fill in “Phase 2” for Tony’s program and I wanted to touch base with you on what mands you were targeting during speech time. About 4 would be good, but I’ll use whatever. Thanks for the help!

Suggestions for teaching mands for “which” and “who” (to go along with previous post on teaching “what” and “where”):
“Which”:
Option 1-Therapist will set up a situation where two similar reinforcers are on the table and say “Give me a crayon (one is red and one is blue), then prompt Tony via echoics “Which crayon?”. Therapist says “the red one”, and Tony should hand the red one to the therapist and socially reinforce with opportunity to mand for other reinforcement. This could be conducted with a variety of items that are reinforcing for Tony.
Option 2-Therapist should put a reinforcer in their hand and switch it back and forth, hiding the location. With hands extended out prompt “Which hand?”, and say “this one” and deliver reinforcer from hand to Tony.
Option 3-Therapist will put out 3 containers that are the same and move them around with a reinforcing item under them (like the shell game). Tell Tony “You can have the Play-doh”, then prompt him to ask “Which one?”. Then, reinforce accordingly.
“Who”:
Option 1-Have three people in the room and say “someone has a crayon for you” (or other reinforcer). Prompt Tony to ask “Who?” or “Who does?”. Then give the name of the person and Tony walks to person and gets the reinforcer.
Option 2-Therapist presents pictures of known people (e.g., Marlaina, Anton, grandparents) along with unknown people. Therapist hold up one picture and says “Who is it?” (only ask who is it one time when starting the game). These would be tacts. When an unknown person is held up, prompt Tony to ask “Who is that?” (mand) and tell him who it is.
Option 3-Using toys that are reinforcing to Tony the therapist will hid a toy character behind a barrier and say “Guess who is behind here!”, Prompt him to ask “Who?”, then show the item and say its nameand let Tony have it to play with for a short time.
You may try one or a combination of these when teaching “Which” and “Who”. Let me know how things go with it.
